Corrine Angeline (Allerton) Toll

Corrine Angeline Allerton Toll Reagan was born on July 16, 1933, to Boyd Ezekiel and Luella Elizabeth (Mitchell) Allerton in Yankton, SD. Corrine left South Dakota at an early age with her parents and Aunt Marguerite. She rode all the way to Salem, OR sitting on her Aunt Marguerite’s lap on the rumble seat of the car.

When she started school, she was mad at a girl because she whispered in her bad ear. No one knew she was born deaf in her right ear. Colleen and I never remembered to talk in the left ear. Her dad was a chef, and her mother was a cook, so she was raised in the restaurant business. Her dad was a direct descendant of Isaac Allerton of the Mayflower.

Her family moved to Molalla, OR where they opened a diner, and she was a waitress. She met Duane Toll and married him after her father died in 1951. Carolyn was born in 1952, and Colleen followed in 1953. Duane worked in a lumber mill during the day, and Corrine was a waitress at night in a Chinese restaurant. They were living in a remodeled chicken coop lean-to with a trailer attached.

Duane was in the Navy Reserves since graduating high school. After moving to Santa Rosa, CA to a different mill he decided to join the Navy full-time and moved the family to Alameda, CA, starting his service in the military. He flew on the Navy blimps and when they quit using them, he joined the Air Force. Shortly after the family moved to France for 4 years.

Corrine was a room mother for both girls’ classes during grade school. She made matching dresses for the three of them every Easter. She was interested in cake decorating and made many cakes for family and friends. She started making wedding cakes for hire. She took numerous classes to learn new techniques. She entered her cakes in the Kansas State Fair and won several ribbons.

Carolyn married Rick Burton in 1972, and her first grandchild, Bradley, was born in 1973. Duane and Corrine retired from the Air Force in 1977 and hit the road in a motor home. They traveled for 20 years visiting all over the USA and Mexico. In 1979, their granddaughter Melissa was born. That was the only time they came to Texas during the summer. (Too hot).

Colleen stayed on the West Coast and married Mike Godfrey in 1983, having no children.

Through the years her husband, Duane said he would buy a Newell motor home for her one day. He finally bought one after Christmas 1996, lived in it for 3 days, and passed away from a heart attack on Jan 1, 1997. Corrine had never driven a large diesel motor home before. She was in Texarkana, TX with Carolyn and had no idea what she would do with this big rig. The dealer sent a man to Texarkana to drive the motor home to Dallas and they taught her how to drive it and manage the motor home. She left Texarkana pulling her pickup and started a life on the road alone with a puppy. She traveled alone and started working with Sojourners and in her fifth year alone she met the next love of her life, Beryl.

Beryl and Corrine met at a Sojourner’s meeting in Marshall, TX. They married in October of 2001 and continued to travel with Sojourners over the next 14 years. They settled in Lubbock, TX in the fall of 2015. The highlight of their years in Lubbock was spent with grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Beryl and Corrine are survived by daughters, Patricia Hutto; Karen (Steve) Hays, Donna (Carl) Stutzman, Carolyn (Rick) Burton, and Colleen Godfrey (Steve Leggett); grandchildren, Sarah (Eddie) Rameriz, Ben (Staci) Hutto, Katie (Daniel) Nash, Jo Beth (Adam) Angerer, Jonathan Hays, Shea Stutzman, Allison Stutzman, Bradley (Isabel) Burton, and Melissa (Pat) Remming; great-grandchildren, Sydnee Hutto, Jaxsyn Hutto, Sam Ramirez, Cas Ramirez, Natalie Hutto, Avree Hutto, Kinsley Hutto, Hemi Nash, Rowynn Nash, Fen Nash, Cale Angerer, Chyann Angerer, Bella Angerer, Brandon Remming, Christopher Burton, and Leslie Burton.

Corrine is also survived by a brother, Paul (April) Vider; brothers-in-law, Ronald Toll, John Toll, and Gary Toll; and numerous cousins. Beryl is preceded by his father, Edmun Reagan; mother, Agnes Reagan; stepmother, Naomi Reagan; his first wife, JoAnn Reagan; son Danny Reagan; and brothers, F.M. Hoffman, and Clarence Reagan. Corrine is preceded by her parents, Boyd, and Luella Allerton; and her first husband Duane Toll.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Southside Church of Christ, Traditions Hospice, or Bridge Hospice in Beryl and Corrine Reagan’s memory.
