Dorothy (Huskey) Speights

Dorothy Speights was born Dorothy Huskey, March 30, 1932 in Oregon City, Oregon.

On September 9, 1948 she married Roy Speights, whom she had known from high school, and together they raised 2 children, Robert, born in Oregon City, Oregon, and Katherine born in Eureka, California.

Together they enjoyed flying model airplanes. She even became a judge for the model airplane contests to help out instead of just watching. At some point she also got a contractor’s license, in order to get permits and information to help her husband build houses. They built several houses together, starting with one in Redway, CA.

While living in Sacramento they became members of the North Metro Church of Christ on October 1, 1998, where they attended faithfully. Dorothy was the young children’s bible school teacher for many years. She really enjoyed singing, especially during monthly church potlucks.

After almost 70 years of marriage, she was widowed on July 3, 2018.

Dorothy had 4 brothers, one, Arthur, still living, and one surviving sister, Edith. She is also survived by her two sisters-in-law, Marjorie Mitts and Peggy Paslay, and brother-in-law Dot Speights.

Dorothy last attended the Fulton Road Church of Christ in Santa Rosa whenever possible since she suffered from Parkinson’s disease.

On June 16, 2023 she died of pneumonia after a hard fought battle but a long blessed life. She was 91 years old. Dorothy will be deeply missed, loved and remembered by many.
