Gene Leslie Newton October 1, 1926 - December 18, 2013- Gene Leslie Newton, 87, of Canby, died Dec. 18, 2013. He was born Oct. 1, 1926, in Newberg to Isaac and Bertie Odessie Newton. He graduated from Molalla High School and served as a radio operator in the U.S. Navy. On July 31, 1947, he married Geneva “Rosie” Cardwell in Vancouver, Wash. He owned Gene’s Home Electronics in Canby from 1956 to 1982, and then sold the company to his son. He was a founding member of the Canby Utility Board and a member of the Lions Club and Canby Area Chamber of Commerce. Survivors include his wife; son, Jim, of Canby; daughter, Janice Kellogg, of Hillsboro; three grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. A memorial service will be held in January.
