Helen Kathryn (Wright) Leggett Aug. 13, 1931 - Feb. 4, 2003 A memorial service for Helen Leggett, 71, of Coos Bay, will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday, Feb. 7, at North Eugene Faith Center, 151 River Ave., Eugene. A second service will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 8, at North Bend Christian Church, 2420 Sherman Way. She was born Helen Kathryn Wright on Aug. 13, 1931, in Oregon City. She died Feb. 4, 2003, in Springfield. She graduated from Molalla High School and earned two bachelor's degrees, one from Oregon State University and one from Western Oregon at Monmouth. Her first teaching assignment took her to Market Street Elementary School in Coos Bay. It was there that she fell in love with Manley Leggett, the school's principal. The two were married for 45 years until his death in 2001. The couple had three children and Mrs. Leggett served as a substitute teacher while raising them. She returned to full-time teaching at Madison Street Elementary School in Coos Bay from about 1975 through 1990. She was active in the First Christian Church in North Bend for 45 years, serving as a Sunday school teacher, deaconess, treasurer, choir member and camp leader as well as other church roles. She was also a leader in the business and professional women's association, Knife and Fork Club and the Lions club. In her retirement years, despite living with Parkinson's disease, she was active in her church, the community and the Kiwanis club. She is survived by her brother, Benjamin Wright of Canby; daughter, Kathy Greig and husband, Steve of Eugene and their son, Andrew; son, Brian Leggett and his wife, Marilyn of Aurora, Colo., and their children, Jordan, Jaxson and Joshua; and son, John Leggett and his wife, Hilva of Dallas, Texas. She was preceded in death by her twin brother, Harry Wright.
