Donald B. Larson Donald B. Larson Don Larson died following a brief illness on December 19, 2012. Don was born on Decmeber 26, 1929, in Silverton, OR and grew up in Molalla OR. He enlisted in the US Army following graduation from Molalla High School. His military years were spent in Japan. Following his discharge he entered Oregon State University and earned a teaching degree. While attending college, Don worked for Alaska Fish and Wildlife Department, and started his teaching career later in life in Ketchikan, Alaska. Later he earned a master's degree in education and became the principal of White Cliff Elementary in Ketchikan. Don returned to Oregon and started teaching at Robert Frost Elementary in Silveron in the early 1970's. Don married Carol Hodgson, a longtime friend in June 1975. Carol's sons, Gary and Larry Hodgson, welcomed Don as a stepfather and special friend. Don and Carol retired from teaching in the early 1990's, but both tutored students for several years following. Don enjoyed his family, golfing, fishing, traveling, gardening, and cowboy movies - his family hopes he's connected with John Wayne by now. As his health declined, he was less able to enjoy his usual activities. He is survived by his wife, Carol Larson, stepson, Larry Hodgson, brother, Bud Larson, sister, Barbara Sandgren, grandchildren, Michael Hodgson (Amy), Becky McNeil (Brandon), Mark Hodgson (Nicole), and great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. His stepson, Gary Hodgson, (Jeanne) preceded him in death in 2011. A memorial service will be held on January 19, 2013 at 1:00 PM at St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Salem. A reception will follow in the church parish hall. In lieu of flowers, please address donations to the Oregon Donor Program or to the charity of your choice.
