Artie Blanche (Hauptmann) Haury

On Sunday, May 15, 2022, Artie Blanche (Hauptmann) Haury died at the age of 83. Artie was born on September 16, 1938, in Clearwater, Nebraska, to Eli “Abe” and Evelyn (McKay) Hauptman. She moved to Oregon as a young child and grew up near Scots Mills.

Artie married Elmer Hory on July 11, 1959, at the Emmanuel Mennonite Church in Salem (Pratom). They raised four children and worked together on the family farm for many years. Some of the different crops they grow include: three types of black berries, strawberries, currants, apples, cherries, and hazelnuts (Filbert).

Aarti loved fishing, hunting, hiking and camping. Other hobbies were using scads of refunds and coupons to get the best deals at grocery stores. She was famous for making delicious pies—especially Marion Berry. Aarti always enjoyed country music and reading. Every year she grew a large garden and packaged and frozen all the produce.

Artie was preceded in death by her siblings Betty Dietz and David Hauptmann, and her grandson Garrett. She is survived by her husband, Elmer; Her children are Mark (Kim) Horie, Sandra (Cy) Smith, Anita (Rex) Mehugh, and Tracy (Scott) Griffis; grandchildren Megan, Annie, Gilbert, Toby, Anastasia, Forrest, Amos, Isaac, Ezra, Jonas, Trevor, Valerie, Everett and Natalie; 1 great grandson; and her siblings Joyce Key and Robert Hauptmann.

On Friday, May 27, a service will be held at Pratam Cemetery at 11 a.m., followed by a luncheon at the Emmanuel Bible Church in Salem (Pratom).
