Carol M. (Morford) Kirk
James "Jim" Bidgood was born in Cloverdale, Oregon, on February 2, 1918, and died Wednesday, July 29, 2013, in his apartment at Lakeview Senior Living in Lincoln City, Oregon. (A formal obituary will follow later.) Family and staff/resident friends came to his side on Wednesday to offer a prayer or hold Jim's hand, until his passing. He was a well-liked resident in Lakeview Assisted Living. If you want to attend the Celebration of Life for Jim, you may need directions: On the Oregon side of the Columbia River, travel east on I-84 past The Dalles and past the Celilo Tribal Land. Take the Biggs Junction exit onto Highway 97 South - toward Bend. Travel south on Hwy 97 about 8.5 to 9 miles. Turn right onto Cemetery Road to Sun Rise Cemetery. (GPS Coordinates per Google: Latitude: 45.60690, Longitude: -120.72860, if that helps.) An exit off of Hwy 97 after Cemetery Road says "Wasco" (Old Highway 97) to the left. If you get to the Wasco exit you have gone too far. Also, the next intersection after Sun Rise (aka Sunrise) on Cemetery Road is Locust Grove Lane. If you reach that intersection you have gone too far. Rev. Bob Reasoner, a close friend to Jim, will officiate at the Celebration of Life. Jim expressed his affection for Rev. Reasoner and the Methodist congregation in Wasco. He missed them after moving to the Oregon Coast. An Honor Guard will be present at the Celebration of Jim's Life. In the U.S. Navy during World War II, Jim was the only medical officer on one of the destroyer escorts, the USS Moore, defending troop- and supply-ships in convoys back and forth across the Atlantic. He served 1941-'45. Following the war, Jim served the public as a pharmacist for 40 years. Many people remember him as a pharmacist in Wasco with his wife, Huldah, who predeceased him in 2006. Huldah's son Rob Muir and Jim's daughters Joan and Nancy live in Oregon. He has one brother still living, Kenneth Bidgood, and many nieces, nephews, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Three brothers and one sister predeceased him. All are invited to a reception with refreshments after the Sun Rise Celebration of Life. Maps to the Methodist Church in Wasco will be available. We in the family invite you to come on August 9th at 1:00 p.m. Remembrances may be made for Jim to the American Cancer Society (he died of complications from cancer) or to your local library (he was a lifelong learner). A contact number, PO address and email address follow for Nancy Bidgood, Jim's daughter and co-executor: 541-994-6974; PO Box 322, Gleneden Beach, OR 97388; coastwriters@gorge.net.
