Earl Fredrick Berthold, 83, died Dec. 7, 2009 at his home in Molalla.

He was born July 28, 1926 in Canby, Ore. to Otto and Elenora Berthold. He married JoAn Pearson on Dec. 28, 1949 in Oregon City.

He was class president and valedictorian at Molalla High School and attended the University of Oregon for five years, majoring in civil engineering.

He served in the U.S. Army Air Forces for 10 months at the end of World War II and worked for Kaiser Engineers for 31 years, retiring in 1983.

He was a member of Grace Lutheran Church.

He is survived by his wife, JoAn Berthold of Molalla; his daughter, Pamela Harris of West Linn, Ore.; his son, Martin Berthold of Molalla; four grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.

His memorial service was held Monday, Dec. 14 at 10 a.m. at Grace Lutheran Church, officiated by Pastor Grant Francis and arranged by Molalla Funeral Chapel. He is buried at Zion Cemetery in Canby, Ore.
