Lloyd Delmar Smith

Lloyd Delmar Smith passed away April 19, 2017. He was 88.

Delmar was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, son and brother who led a full life, passing away just prior to his 89th birthday.

Lloyd was born to Bert and Marie Smith in The Dalles, Ore. He grew up in The Dalles and Lakeview until moving to Molalla with his family in 1938. Following family tradition, he honorably served his country in the U.S. Marine Corps in the China Marines from 1945-1948.

Lloyd married Patricia Hackett in Mt. Angel, Ore. on Nov. 19, 1955. They settled in at the family property outside Molalla to raise their six children and lived there until his death.

Lloyd was a hard working family man, who was a logger with Crown Zellerbach for 33 years until his retirement. A happy, kind and generous man, he will be remembered as an outdoorsman, who enjoyed fishing, hunting, and camping. He was also a craftsman with hobbies in woodworking, leather tooling and rock tumbling. He looked forward to his trips to Reno and in later years enjoyed his easy chair, crossword puzzles, games, and enjoying the view across the valley from his front porch.

Lloyd was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Roger (Bud) Smith; and son-in-law, Larry Vance.

He will be lovingly remembered and missed by his wife of 62 years, Patricia; children, Julie Vance, Nathan (Tootie) Smith, Fredrick (Cheryl) Smith, Andrew (Gilda Smith Pacheco) Smith, Cassandra (Bruce) Roth, Lucas Smith; grandchildren, Patricia and Eric Maurer, Tess Smith, Matthew, Forrest and Hannah Smith, Vera and Andres Smith Pacheco; and great-granddaughter, Frances Vargas
