Esther R. Olson

Esther R. Olson — July 27, 1919 to March 7, 2010

Esther was born in Yoder, one of 10 children born to James and Rosa Watson. She was educated at Yoder and graduated in 1937 from Molalla High School where she was in the top of her class and very active in school activities. She married Melvin Edgar Olson on Jan. 8, 1939. Mel, the love of her life, died in 2002.

Esther lived a simple life. She loved her family and all of her grandchildren and great grandchildren. They were the apple of her eye. She loved to go camping and fishing with her beloved Mel.

She was a member of the Smyrna United Church of Christ and was active in the Stitch Club, the Ladies Aid and several card playing and social groups including Bunco and Pinochle.

Surviving family members include her children, Janet Swartout of Aurora, Merlyn Olson of Salem, Mary Munson of Haines and Leonard Olson of Salem; 10 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren.

 The family suggests memorials may be made to the Smyrna United Church of Christ.

Esther R. Olson

Esther R. Olson, 90, of Molalla, died Sunday, March 7, 2010, at a Tualatin hospital.

She was born July 27, 1919, in Yoder, one of 10 children of James and Rosa Watson. She was educated at Yoder and graduated at the top of her class from Molalla High School, where she was active in school activities.

On Jan. 8, 1939, she married Melvin Edgar Olson. He died in 2002.

She enjoyed her family and camping and fishing with her husband.

A member of the Smyrna United Church of Christ, she was active in the Stitch Club, Ladies Aid and several card-playing and social groups.

Survivors include her children, Janet Swartout of Aurora, Merlyn Olson of Salem, Mary Munson of Haines and Leonard Olson of Salem; 10 grandchildren; and 10 great grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, March 13, at 11 a.m. at Smyrna United Church of Christ. Burial at the church cemetery will precede the service.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Smyrna United Church of Christ.
