Ronald Edward Engle

October 31, 1938 - October 9, 2016

Ron Engle was born on October 31 1938 in Oregon City.  He spent most of his childhood growing up on the family farm with his brother Roger and parents Lee and Blanche where they raised livestock, milked the dairy cows and worked the land.  Ron went to school in Mulino and graduated from Molalla High School in 1956.  He was active in the FFA and participated in the local and state fairs.

He also helped his parents by working in the family restaurant, The Engle's Cafe.  After graduation he attended OIT in Klamath Falls and later took additional classes at Clark College.  'He was always interested in photography and screen printing.  He owned a sign shop for many years where he was able to take advantage of both of those interests.

When Ron married Annette Amell Engle in 1963 they made their home in the
Milwaukie area where they raised three children, Robert, Jon and Karen.  In keeping with their high standards and values they made a decision to put the children through private schools.  This meant that Ron had to take on a position driving a truck in the Portland area.  He still maintained his side business/hobby picking up screen printing jobs where he could.

Family was very important to Ron and Annette.  They joined the Milwaukie Elks
trailer club where the family enjoyed going on weekend camping trips every month.  Here they were able to go hiking, biking, beach combing and enjoy many other group activities in a very fun environment with many friends.  The group became like an extended family.

Around 1992 Ron re-energized his entrepreneurial spirit when he and Annette purchased Canby Trophy.  They added the element of screen printing to enhance the success of the operation.  They also moved back out to the family farm in Mulino around this same time and built a house.  This is when Ron began his next great hobby of collecting and restoring old tractors.  He started with the original family farm tractor, a 1940 Case that his father purchased new and drove home from the dealership with Ron on his lap.  The collection continued to grow and he could be found displaying them in places like the Steam Up in Brooks, the Mulino Airport flying club breakfast and the Molalla parade.

In 2008 Ron was diagnosed with Parkinson's, but he was not about to let that slow him down.  They continued to go camping with the trailer group until he could no longer safely drive.  After that they purchased a motor home that Annette could drive so they could still make it to their outings.  Ron continued to work on the farm and restore his tractors with the help of his children.  By early spring of 2016 he was no longer able to walk.  Of course that did not preclude him from working.  He used his scooter to go out to the shop where he transferred to his golf cart.  From there he could travel anywhere on the farm that he needed to go.  Every now and then he would need to be rescued when the golf cart battery would run out on the back forty.

In September 2016 he finally had to move to Pheasant Pointe Care Center as the disease had taken away all of his mobility.  Here he spent the rest of his days.  He passed peacefully surrounded by friends and family on October 9, only 22 days before his 78th birthday.  He is survived by his wife Annette, three children, Robert, Jon and Karen and grandchildren Neil, Jessica, Alayna, Hannah and Taylor.
