Arden L. Eby Sr.

Arden L. Eby Sr. age 91, born October 25, 1921, died August 17, 2013

Arden Eby Sr. passed away Aug. 17, 2013, at home in Canby, in the company of his loving sons, Robert, Lee and Arden Jr.

Well known for his cheerful and positive attitude, a framed print of the "Optimist's Creed" was by his side as requested. He was a loyal husband, caring for his wife, Carol, in her final days even as his own health began to deteriorate. They were together for more than 62 years. She preceded him in death by seven weeks.

Arden led a varied and interesting life. Born to pioneer stock in rural Molalla, he made his way at age 17 to New York where he quickly became a popular hairdresser.

Back on the West Coast a few years later, he served in the U.S. Coast Guard during WWII. Following the war, he cut and styled hair at the downtown Portland Meier and Frank. He then operated his own salon for many years next to the Raleigh Hills Kienow's.

Serving on various arts and historical preservation boards over the years, he was creative and passionate about his many projects, including architectural salvage and custom cars. Arden saw beauty and potential in people and things often overlooked by others and had an infectious enthusiasm for life.

In addition to his three sons, he is survived by several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
