George E. Burghardt

George E. Burghardt passed away in his Oceanside residence after a long illness on Feb. 24, 2009, at age 88.

George was born May 26, 1920, in Molalla to Leland and Edna (Vick) Burghardt. He attended Molalla High School.

In 1940, George enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served honorably during WWII before his discharge in 1946. Burghardt was a lifelong Oregon resident and worked as a millwright at A.F. Lowes Sawmill in Molalla until he moved to Tillamook and worked for Crown Zellerbach Lumber Mill until he retired in 1982.

George was married to Olive Newell Doveton in Oregon City on Aug. 8, 1959.

George enjoyed woodworking, working on computers and in his garden.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Olive, on May 27, 1983.

He is survived by stepson John Doveton; grandson Mark Doveton; great-granddaughter Elise Doveton; one sister-in-law; several nieces and nephews, and many wonderful friends.

Graveside services were at Sunset Heights Memorial Gardens in Tillamook on Saturday, Feb. 28. Those who wish may make contributions in his name to Tillamook County Hospice in care of Waud's Funeral Home.
