Whooping it up in Molalla:

Molalla High School celebrated its 90th Birthday, Saturday April 23, 2005.

Molalla High School's birthday celebration was a huge success.  Many people worked hard to make everything fall into place.  Special mention goes to Roger Engle '61, Dori Dunton Pence '61, Joel Daniels '59, Rich Reasoner '62, Ron Engle '56, Delores Adams Erb '62, Cora Adams Brown '57,  Ardeth Trullinger Woods '55, Lillian Hungerford Hodges '43, Byron Schriever '48, Barbara Beyer Daniels '87, Bonnie Schmidt Glendenning '88, Jennie Schmidt Rosenblatt '87, Dennis '84 and Melynda Wise '87.  Thanks also to Lee Sheffield, Molalla Thriftway and Molalla Safeway for their generous donations.  Thanks to everyone who made this day a success!

Indian Cruise-In St James Field/Gymnasium Parking Lot:

Dick Reasoner '62 coordinated this event.  About a dozen vintage cars and specialty vehicles were on display at St. James, next to the high school.

    Lunch at MHS Commons:

Alumni and friends arrived early to the high school commons.  Dori Dunton Pence '61 issued name tags and directed them to the display area consisting of many photos, yearbooks, sweaters and so forth.  Delores Adams Erb '62 was pinning up the last pictures as the first alumni arrived.

The guests were seated at the many dining tables just in time for lunch served by the members of the high school baseball team. Ric and Cindy (Marsh) Dishner '81 from Ricky D's catered the meal.

    Birthday program in the Auditorium:

    • Tim Brownhill '55, was the MC for the day.  Tim introduced the Socialaires,  a high school choral group led by Tim Friesen.   They favored us with several songs.

    • Bill Barth '60 described the project to restore senior pictures which had been hung in the old high school.  They were rescued prior to demolition of the building and had been damaged when the school was closed.

    • Ralph Holman '32 made a surprise announcement.  Associate Justice Ralph Holman, a retired Oregon Supreme Court Judge,  said the Holman Family has raised $250,000 to provide scholarships for Molalla graduates.  The money will be managed by the Oregon Community Foundation and income from the donation will be used to provide scholarships in 2006 and subsequent years.  The scholarship selection committee will be composed of teachers from different disciplines (science and arts), younger and older alumni as well as community participants.  Justice Holman challenged each graduating class to rally together to raise money for community philanthropy such as scholarships.  Charles Holman and Paul Holman, brothers of Ralph, also graduated from Molalla.

    • The Molalla Community Chorus, led by Stan Vanderwall (former music teacher at Molalla) sang a number of melodic favorites.

    • Kyle McGann, '05 the current student body president, greeted the Alumni.  Dennis Wise '84, described memorial fund raising for Molalla student Justin Hobart '05, who died earlier this year in an automobile accident.  Locker rooms at Heckard Field will be built in his honor.

Tea and Cake at Ivor Davies Hall

The Molalla Historical Society invited the Alumni to stop by Ivor Davies Hall.  This was a structure constructed using artifacts from the old high school building destroyed by the earthquake.  Memorabilia of school days through the years was on exhibit and birthday cake and tea were served.
